This brass helmet is a physical record of intense manual labor. It is not cast from a mold; it is born from a flat sheet of solid brass, shaped entirely through the traditional, demanding techniques of repoussé and chasing. It is a substantial, heavy-duty sculptural piece designed for serious collectors of military history and architectural metalwork.
Crafted entirely by hand, the surface of this helmet tells the story of its creation. Look closely to see the subtle hammer marks and organic textures that can only be achieved through traditional forging.
Height: 58 cm \ 22.8 inches
Width: 22 cm \ 8.6 inches
Depth: 29 cm \ 11.4 inches
To create this piece, the artisan employs a dual-action forging method.
– From the Inside (Repoussé): The metal is repeatedly heated and struck from the interior, pushing the heavy brass outward to form the commanding, voluminous dome.
– From the Outside (Chasing): The craftsman then turns the piece over, using specialized chasing hammers and tools on the exterior to compress the metal inward. This defines the sharp ridges, deep grooves, and intricate relief patterns.
