Suzani fabric is a hand-embroidered textile produced across Central Asia, primarily in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and neighboring regions. The ground cloth is cotton or silk, and the embroidery is worked in silk or cotton thread using a chain stitch or a flat satin stitch, depending on the regional tradition. The dominant motifs are circular medallions, botanical forms, and stylized sun discs, arranged across large-format bedspreads, table covers, wall hangings, and runners.Historically, suzani fabric was produced as part of a bride's trousseau. Sections of the ground cloth were distributed among female relatives, each of whom embroidered a portion, resulting in subtle variations in thread tension, color saturation, and stitch density across a single piece. These variations are not defects.
